Just interviewing metahumans/superheros.
Tomorrow jury duty.

I volunteer at ESTR, then went downtown to the A. Lincoln and F. Douglass speech or whatever. It was a nice day. No homework though.
I need to buckle down.

It's a week since I've last posted.
Saturday - my niece came over and she rode on my back like I was on a horsey.
I went to the city council meeting on Tuesday, and then I went to the central library to see the Lincoln exhibit. I saw a lot of former supervisor. Apparently there was a meeting there at 2 p.m.
I'm way, way behind on my homework. Well, mostly 5210. That class kills me.

Yesterday I went to sleep at 3 a.m. At 2 p.m. I volunteered at the East Regional Library. Everyone was glad to see me and I shelved all the paperbacks. I've been obsessed with the remastered beatles CDs and Beatles Rockband but I've vowed to wait until my birthday. Or the last day of the semester if I pass all my classes.
Today I just read ONTD. I didn't even do a bit of homework, but I did the 5210 chat for class. I swear I'll do some homework tomorrow, but I said that yesterday.

Spent My sister's birthday with my niece. Trying to catch up on some homework. I don't like Brian Azzarello's writing, and I'm struggling with Batman: Broken City. I am enjoying some Hellboy and Oh My Goddess:Color. Good times. Spent half of today reading ONTD's epic ASkar's post. I don't even find the dude attractive, but the LOLs were many.
Still exercising except for that weekend long break.

Tuesday I had a class chat and didn't go to the city council meeting, which was a 7 p.m., but there were kids outside protesting the library closings. I saw it on the news.
Wednesday was a lazy day. I had another chat for class, and did some 5210 homework. I finished "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" by Danzy Senna.
Thursday- Did a bit of homework and watched Happy-Go-Lucky for the Okayplayer.com's Pass the Popcorn's movie club. I liked in it. There was great acting from Sally Hawkins and Eddie Marsan.
Friday - To celebrate my sister's birthday weekend, we got slices of cake from Creme De La Creme bakery. Rochelle said it had been on the Food Network. The cakes were absolutely amazing! We got a cupcake for my niece and she tore into it. A good time was had by all.
Saturday - Rochelle had relationship drama. I returned some library items, but then I ended up getting more.

Yesterday, my Mom and I picked my niece up from school since her mom and other granny couldn't. It was cool to see her in her natural habitat. She introduced us to her friends. It was so adorable to see them hug like they wouldn't see each other for weeks. I also got her a Hello Kitty Pez dispenser, which she loved.
Today, the city council meeting was at 7 p.m., but I had a class chat at 8 pm and couldn't attend, but I learned on the news that some kids and their parents had a protest to save the libraries outside of City Hall. That was really heartwarming, but the city's budget shortfall was by $59 million. The libraries now might be only open for 4 days a week.
Tomorrow, I'm staying in to do classwork.

Classes are going okay. I don't have my work groups for them yet. I exercised today. Yes, it is important enough to note it.
I watched Sunshine Cleaning. It was okay. The acting was good, but something (idk if it was the writing or direction) left me feeling. I also didn't like the kid. He was just a troublesome (bad and annoying) kid. he belonged in the remedial class. Also, Amy Adams is absolutely gorgeous, the camera loves Emily Blunt, and Clifton COllins, Jr. ...*swoons*
But seriously, that kid was not adorable or funny. The extra feature about a real “death cleaning business" was the best part. The ladies interviewed were funny and interesting. The movie could've taken a few notes from them.

Like any magazine or anthology, there are some good bits and some bad bits. The best part is Lauren Greenfield's documentary "Kids + Money", which interviews LA teens of different economic backgrounds about money. The interviews are filmed in their homes and the answers are quite fascinating.
"Short Term 12" is a close second with a heartfelt short movie set in an LA youth center for very troubled teens. The acting and small scale makes for a very intimate film. The young actors are really good.
Most of the other films fall under Mileage May Vary. Don't mind kind of graphic sex and love The Buzzcocks? The first love story "Love You More" based on Patrick Marber's "Peter Shelley" short story. Marber also wrote the play, CLOSER, which became the eponymous movie. Now imagine if there was a sex scene in that movie and it was about a first love/shag. Love experimental animation? Enjoy "From Burger It Came." It makes Ren & Stimpy look like, well, like it's for kids. "Hidden" is a good animated documentary but it wasn't my cup of tea and my attention waned. As for "Great Man and Cinema" and "My Friends Told Me About You" well if you love seeing North Korea propaganda subverted by a wacky Westerner or Carlos D of Interpol (in that order), you still might find these shorts taxing. "My Friends..." is especially pretentious and obtuse.
As for the most talked about part, "The Room Before and After"...it was just okay. Maria Bamford , Creed Bratton (yes, Creed from The Office [US version]), and James Franco get to destroy a room. Bratton and Bamford spend about less than five minutes to break a few things and try to weave together a sort of reasoning for the destruction. On the other hand Franco spends almost a half hour wreaking pure havoc. It's almost more a question of what didn't he break or destroy, including his own clothes. And then when you think he's almost done, gets scissors, gasoline, or a bat and goes apes**t. Afterward everyone is then interviewed about the destruction. I'll admit I was distracted by Franco's bellybutton and he was out of breath in his interview, but I'm pretty sure he mentioned something his wrote in his Columbia graduate writing program class - or maybe he dreamt it in class - I don't remember much except that he has a cute bellybutton.

What I hope is my last year of graduate school started on Thursday. I did some introductory posts in my classes. Considering that one class I fail, and the other I dropped out of in the beginning weeks, I'm pretty calm. Okay, except for the class I failed. I saw the purple background and had a small panic attack. I just freaked out a little.
On Friday I bought the usual supplies (3 subject notebook, pens, highlighters) and found the books I needed. I also brought some weight to show myself that I'm serious about losing some weight. Okay, it may not be noticeable, but I can't do a sit-up and I get winded way too easily. Then my niece spent the night.
Today, she finally got me to watch a bit of the Hannah Montana movie, but mostly we played games that she made up (bank, bakery, and a weird obstacle course involving Popsicle sticks) and UNO. She's is a brutal UNO player. She won every game, and was very coy about how often she played it with her cousins. I guess I'm going to have to play it more to beat her.
I watched Forst/Nixon this week, which was excellent. I guess I'll spend to night watching another movie or two. I'm just really worried about this semester and want to do very well (As, perhaps?).

On Sunday I saw the exhibit at the Kimball. It was good/okay. I want to know more about Elizabeth Catlett and Wifredo Lam. I was enamored with their art.
Monday, um, I did nothing? No wait, I watched Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day. Cute stuff. Amy Adams is breath-taking as always. Mark Strong was in it, so I knew it was quality stuff! Everyone was great. I was surprised by Lee Pace's accent.
Tuesday (today) - I went to my first City Council meeting ever! It was at 10 a.m., but it didn't start until 10:30, which was good because I was late. I stayed for the whole thing which lasted until a little after 1 p.m. I came to hear about the possible budget and the proposed closure of the Wedgewood and Meadowbrook libraries. Several people spoke about the budget cuts. One man spoke about the community centers and pool closures, three people spoke on behalf of Imagination Celebration (but they were all employees of Imagination Celebration), and four people spoke on behalf of the libraries.
The first woman spoke about both libraries and their impact on the communities (WWD is the third busiest branch in Fort Worth) and proposed other options besides closure, such as only keeping the library open on alternate days. Two other people spoke on behalf of Wedgewood Neighborhood associations. A woman with two small children told why she thought Meadowbrook was important. She was a home-schooled and cited the libraries proximity to Eastern Hills High School and an elementary school. There is a nearby nursing home and the next closest branch (East Regional) is not easily accessible by public transportation. [I know for a fact that you have to hike up a hill to get to the closest bus stops.] The communities need was well represented to the city council and all the members emphasized the importance of libraries but Mayor Moncrief said that they faced tough budgeting choices because the revenue from natural gas fell so steeply.
I also finished The Many Lives of Dax. It was a good anthology.

I love James Kolchalka's diaries and I discovered that Derek Kirk Kim also sort of does that. I wish I did that because I love the idea of a short visual note about the day. Instead I try to cram a lot into words. I was sort of stood up last night, but it's okay.
I wanted to catch and art exhibit at the Kimball, but I went to the library and got immersed in my first love. I think I check out more items than I brought back, which is not what I want to do before school starts. I'll catch the exhibit tomorrow and call my friends Fernando and Erin.
Some of the books I check out were The Somnambulist, A Day in the Life *, and Soul of a People , which reads like a literary Who's Who of the WPA's Writers' Project.
I checked out more fitness DVDs like, 30 day Shred and , SYTYCD:Tone and Groove.
*The book was about beautiful rich young people in Swinging Sixties London, but then it turns out one of their sons was"the well known actor Jake Weber." WHAT . THE. FUCK. I'm a fan of his, but I didn't think most people consider the dad on Medium as a well known actor. That pretty much made the book a must read for me. And then there were pics of Jake as a kid with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. This was not in his Wikipedia biography! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Weber Wait, some one added it at the end, but it is noted as needing verification. LOL

I said I was going to journal more often so here is the attempt. I called an old friend and sort of made plans but it didn't happen and that's okay. My financial aid for the semester will arrive and a few days and I'm no longer nervous. My love life is still non-existent and I'm daydreaming about this actor.
I'll miss spending this summer with my niece and I must return a ton of books before the semester starts on Thursday. My diet to cut back on ONTD has gone well.

I'm pretty much captivated by the news from Iran. I'm even thinking about getting a twitter to follow along. I have difficulty believeing that people are concerned with other superficial stuff when this is going on or a national health care system in the U.S. is slowly being stymied.
